Rory Deighton NHS ConfedExpo 2025 Top Picks

As NHS ConfedExpo 2025 approaches, we spoke with Rory Deighton, Acute and Community Network Director, about the value of this landmark health and care event and his personal highlights from this year’s programme.

Why should busy professionals prioritise attending NHS ConfedExpo this year?

It's challenging to justify taking two days away for NHS ConfedExpo, but I'd argue that this year, more than any other, it's important to take time out, reflect and learn from others how we can approach things differently. The problems we face require radical solutions, and giving yourself the space to listen to experts and peers is a great way to find that necessary headspace. In my experience, the insights and connections you gain at NHS ConfedExpo often provide value that extends far beyond those two days.

What are you personally most excited about at this year’s event?

This year, I’m particularly focused on our new Evolve partnership that combines a state-of-the-art data analytics platform with peer learning spaces. This allows our members to learn from one another in structured improvement communities.

The product launches in September this year and represents a new way of working for us. I’m really excited about its potential to create online spaces where people can come together to review each other’s data and collaborate on solutions. If you have 10 minutes during the event, please message me or find me on the Confed stand, and I’ll be happy to give you a quick demonstration.

Are there any sessions that you are specifically looking forward to?

Absolutely, I am looking forward to the Improving interface working across mental health and acute A&E services session. This links to our Improvement Collaborative with teams from across England coming together to learn from their peers. I’m also looking forward to the Right service, right time: Barnardo’s supporting families to avoid emergency departments session because, like many people, I think that the solutions to the ongoing pressures on our emergency departments lie in supporting people to choose different solutions when they have an urgent problem. Another session I’m eager to attend is Transforming acute care: learning from South and West Hertfordshire Hospital at Home. I am really keen to see how this scheme has developed, and the lessons the trust can share with the conference. Lastly, I am looking forward to the Open to Change Live: experience our improvement forum session, as I am interested in the cultures and behaviours we need to make change flourish.

Any final comments?

I look forward to connecting with many of you at the event. Please reach out and say hello or come and see me for a demonstration of our new Evolve partnership on the Confed stand.
