This session will explore Barnardo’s Family Support Worker (FSW) model, commissioned by NHS England to address the rising number of children under 12 presenting at emergency departments (EDs) due to social determinants impacting health. The one-year pilot embedded FSWs across seven EDs in England, offering holistic, evidence-based psychosocial support for families to improve health outcomes.

Discover how the model improves health literacy, promotes timely access to the right services and strengthens multi-agency collaboration. Case studies will showcase impact, including reduced ED visits and improved parental knowledge and confidence and learning will be shared from NHS Strategy Unit’s evaluation.
