Dr Victoria Butler

Stroke Therapy Clinical Team Lead and Population Health Fellowship 2023 alumni, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust

Victoria is a Physiotherapist specialising in Stroke Rehabilitation in the North East of England. Following completion of the NHS England Population Health Fellowship in September 2023, Victoria took on the role of joint Stoke Therapy Clinical Team lead at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
By using the learning from the fellowship programme and with one-to-one supervision of the North Tees and Hartlepool Public Health Consultant, Victoria was supported to reflect and develop ideas and principles to change and promote this within a wider scope and in her clinical practice.
Prior to this she gained a Churchill Fellowship award to study Community falls programs and stroke recovery services in Australia and New Zealand in 2017.
Fellowship Project summary: Victoria worked on applying a population health approach to a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) pathway. “I gained experience working with multiple organisations, data handling, project management and quality improvement. I have since gone on take on the role as joint Stoke Therapy Clinical Team lead at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, where I have been able to introduce a health inequality focus within clinical practice an in Tees Valley stroke working groups. The Fellowship has enabled me to gain a better understanding of health inequalities and how the method of ‘population health’ can be used to positively influence changes within established healthcare systems.”
