Ms Marsha McAdam
I have diagnoses of borderline personality disorder (BPD), recurrent depression, fibromyalgia, asthma, chronic fatigue, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Hemiplegic Migraines, as well as other physical conditions. These are a constant daily battle for me, and could easily have led to a life of being a recluse. Things changed after I received life-changing mentalization based therapy (MBT) in 2010.
Using my lived experience in various areas of mental health has seen me involved with numerous organisations. Since connecting with Maqsood Ahmed in 2016 through the GM SCN I now no longer feel that it is a tokenistic gesture I am involved in things. I am piloting a “Test Case” with GMHSC by leading on a GM BPD strategy with Warren Heppolette. My proudest achievement to date has been was a GM BPD Roundtable meeting with Professor Peter Fonagy (MBT), Warren and myself all co-chairing.
I am a the Service User Representative on the GM Adult Mental Health Board. Chair of Greater Manchester Adult Mental Health Service User Network that is about bringing Experts by Experience and Experts by Occupation from across the 10 Boroughs in Greater Manchester. I am also a Lived Experience Advisor on the Equally Well UK Campaign.
