Lisa McCarthy is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and Department of Family and Community Medicine. She is also a Learning Health System Fellow with the Institute for Better Health at Trillium Health Partners, one of Canada’s largest and fastest growing health systems. She is a pharmacist leader with more than 20 years experience in many settings including general practice and ambulatory clinics, community pharmacy, and acute care. The goals of her mixed methods research program mirror her clinical ones i.e., reducing medication-related harm while improving people’s medication experiences.

Dr. McCarthy co-leads the deprescribing.org team which is internationally known for creating and evaluating evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, tools, and approaches to support deprescribing across clinical care settings. An award-winning scientist and practitioner, she is an Executive Member of the Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network and serves on advisory committees for Choosing Wisely Canada and Ontario Health (Quality).
