James is an experienced health real estate lawyer, with a track record of managing teams dealing with routine estates work for a range of NHS organisations as well as advising on innovative or complex, health infrastructure development, reconfiguration or disposal projects. James is the author of many standard legal documents used by national NHS bodies.

James is a leading specialist on the rules for funding and development of primary care premises and regularly advises commissioners and GPs on their application. He has also been at the forefront of the development of integrated health and wellbeing facilities providing a range of health and social care services, often by joint venture arrangement between the NHS and local authorities.

James also regularly deals with the disposal of former NHS facilities, including the imposition of overage and clawback arrangements.

James has a BA Honours degree from Nottingham University. He studied law as a postgraduate at the College of Law, York, where he was the winner of the Anthony F. Hughes prize. He is also Chair of the North Yorkshire Mental Health Charity, Claro Enterprises.
