Ellie Wetz

Associate Director, Health Innovation West of England

Ellie has been an integral part of Health Innovation West of England since early 2015. She initially joined as a Senior Improvement Lead/Project Manager, progressed to Programme Manager, and currently holds the position of Associate Director.

During her tenure, Ellie has led several impactful patient safety initiatives. She spearheaded the Safer Care Through Early Warning Scores workstream, managed the Emergency Department Collaborative, and supported regional sepsis initiatives. After a brief pause in 2017-18 for maternity leave, she launched the Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) project. From 2018 to 2020, Ellie successfully managed the national rollout of the PRevention of Cerebral Palsy in PreTerm Labour (PReCePT) programme across all 15 health innovation networks.

Ellie has also served as the programme lead for various regional initiatives, including the Medicines Safety Programme and the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme. She was instrumental in implementing the PERIPrem Bundle in the West of England and South West regions and later supported its adoption across Wales with PERIPrem Cymru. Furthermore, Ellie contributed to the early-stage design of the national Polypharmacy programme.

From April 2022 to September 2023, Ellie was seconded to the Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Integrated Care Board (ICB) as the Integrated Care System Development Programme Manager. She has since returned to Health Innovation West of England as Associate Director, where she leads the Innovate Healthier Together programme for BNSSG, aiming to accelerate the adoption of innovative practices within the integrated care system.
