Mr Tom Gurney
Tom has worked in NHS communications and engagement for 13 years and has recently been appointed into the new Executive team for the NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board as Chief Communications Officer. Tom started his career as a journalist working for regional local papers, before moving into NHS communications and engagement, where he started as a communications officer. He has worked at every level of NHS communications, across acute hospitals trusts, clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and an ICS, and has held an Executive position for the last three years.
Tom has had a system role for four years, supporting the Sussex system to make significant improvements and move successfully from an STP into an ICS, which he has combined with his position as Executive Director of Communications and Public Involvement for three CCGs.
Alongside communications and engagement, Tom has executive leadership experience in a number of other areas. He was also the Director of HR and OD for three CCGs during 2020-21 and is currently the deputy Senior Responsible Officer for the Vaccination Programme across Sussex.
