Matthew Jerreat – Regional Chief Dentist, NHS England South West
Matthew Jerreat formally assumed his role as Regional Chief Dentist for NHS England South West on 1st November 2024. Reporting to the South West NHS Medical Director, he provides clinical leadership and strategic oversight for dentistry across the region. His responsibilities include supporting NHS England's regional team, the South West Collaborative Commissioning Hub, and the seven Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), ensuring high-quality dental care and improved patient outcomes.
In his role, Matthew plays a key part in delivering the national and local dental recovery plans, enhancing workforce training, and promoting the South West as a desirable place to live and work. A Bristol Dental Hospital graduate with a Pharmacology degree, he has 17 years of experience at Somerset Foundation Trust and continues as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Musgrove Park Hospital. His leadership background includes serving as Local Dental Network Chair, fostering strong collaborations with managed clinical networks, regional clinical leads, and local dental committees.
Matthew’s clinical interest is in the treatment of cancer patients, with a focus on dental implants to aid in oral rehabilitation. In addition to his NHS role, he also practices as a private specialist, offering expertise in restorative and implant dentistry.
