Liz Walker

Senior Consultant /Live Well Programme Lead, Imroc

Liz trained as an Occupational Therapist in the early 80s. As she moved away from Occupational Therapy she became much more interested in “people focused” roles and became acutely aware of the importance of her values informing her practice and relationships. This passion for sharing her experiences to make connections and build relationships with people quite naturally led Liz into developing her skills and interest in recovery focused practice and peer support. She has worked alongside Peer Support Workers, other Lived experience practitioners and professionals for 12 years both nationally and internationally.
Liz has a proven track record of delivering high quality innovative services and led the successful ‘Let’s Live Well in Rushcliffe’ project which modelled social prescribing, community engagement and peer support.
Liz believes in the power of communities and co-production to bring about change that is both meaningful and sustainable. She believes within communities, wherever they are, are the people that make a difference, those that really care about their families, friends, loved ones and neighbours, those that recognise "things" can be done differently. These are the people that are likely to be doing things differently in their day to day life, supporting, encouraging and empowering others to do the same. There are the champions, those that see a need and do something about it, full of passion, energy and commitment to “their” people, whoever they may be, those prepared to go that extra mile and taking others along with them. Sharing experiences and practical support, respecting difference and enjoying the journey with like-minded people. Liz believes this is an instinctive and human approach to peer support. The focus of all of Liz’s current work is in communities, coproduction and peer support
