Dr James Ramsay

Chief Medical Officer, Sussex ICS

Dr Ramsay trained in Leeds at the internationally renowned St James’ teaching hospital in 1997. He successfully completed higher training in both respiratory and general internal medicine prior to being appointed respiratory consultant for the NHS at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital in 2006.
His contribution to lung cancer developments and improving patient care led him to become lung cancer and mesothelioma lead and medical director at the Luton and Dunstable hospital.

Recognising the benefits system working brings for patient experience and outcomes he became the clinical cancer lead for Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System. James also worked as a clinical adviser for Urgent and Emergency Care at NHS England and helps to advise systems on approaches to improve patient experience.

Within his Chief Medical Officer (CMO) role, Dr Ramsay is passionate about transformation and clinical leadership, focused on delivering services that meet the needs of patients, with a strong emphasis on performance as a measure of quality.
