Caroline Scates

Deputy Director of Admiral Nurse Development, Dementia UK

Caroline has been nursing for 34 years, with 23 years working in hospice and palliative care. She has a background in education and development at all levels previously developing pre and postgraduate education modules with London South Bank University.
Caroline joined Dementia UK in 2016 and in March 2020 was delighted to take the role of Head of Professional & Practice Development. During this time Caroline lead the team through a series of changes to ensure Admiral Nurses were supported during the pandemic. Caroline also started her Florence Nightingale Emerging Leaders Scholarship at this time and later applied for a Deputy Director post at Dementia UK in 2022 where she now leads on all aspects of Admiral Nurse development.
Caroline has a special interest in end-of-life care and in particular, issues around grief and loss for people living with dementia and their families. Being able to support Admiral Nurses to ensure that people living with dementia and their families have access to specialist nursing is incredibly important and Caroline is proud to work for Dementia UK.
