Aliya Fazil
With 18+ years of Project Management experience Aliya has been involved in various roles of commissioning and delivering community-based projects working both in Birmingham and Bradford.
As the initial founder of the project, Bradford Doulas since 2010, Aliya has developed and expanded the Bradford Doulas service and managed it for 13 years. A service that offers practical and emotional support to pregnant mums six weeks before the birth, during labour and six weeks after the birth, through trained volunteers.
Aliya has developed a much loved and appreciated service working with the most vulnerable pregnant families that offers continuity of care as well as bridging the gap between health & maternity services to ensure that families receive equitable care, in a timely manner, with compassion and kindness and improving maternal experiences particularly during birth and postpartum.
Aliya has trained over a 120 Volunteer Doulas, secured funding from Better Start Bradford (lottery funded programme) & Reducing Inequalities in Communities (RIC) and managed a team of 12 and the service is close to reaching its 1,000th referral! And that’s not all, Aliya is passionate about being an active advocate for women’s birth rights and as a dedicated Volunteer Doula herself, she has supported over 30 women in pregnancy and labour! As the lead qualified trainer for the service Aliya has also developed a train the trainer package and most recently supported the development of Leeds Doula service.
During the Pandemic, Aliya Chaired Bradford, District & Craven Maternity Partnership for 2 years along with becoming a National Maternity Voices Mentor for other women within the MVP membership, with a particular focus on creating platforms for women and birthing people from ethnic minority groups to share their maternity experiences.
Aliya is now working for Bradford, District and Craven Health Care Partnership as one of the new Reducing Inequalities Manager for (Core20plus5) Community Partnerships covering Bradford West
