Developing and sustaining a compassionate, inclusive and collaborative environment for multidisciplinary teams

COVID-19 has shown how crucial a well-supported and effective NHS and healthcare system in all four countries across the UK is. Modern healthcare provision is about multi-professional teams and not individuals, which the pandemic has enabled us to demonstrate. Only with the right workforce with the right skills working in compassionate, inclusive, and collaborative environments can the public be best protected.

Supporting the workforce is a key function of any regulator. As the professional regulators of healthcare professionals, the General Medical Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council and Health and Care Professions Council have important roles to play in making this a reality. In this session, Sean Gallagher, director of strategy and policy at the General Medical Council, Naomi Nicholson, executive director of professional practice and insight at the Health and Care Professions Council, and Matthew McClelland, executive director of strategy and insight at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, will reflect on what we’ve learned from the pandemic; explore what a compassionate, inclusive and collaborative environment means in practice; and discuss what more needs to be done.
