The NHS Cadets programme provides first aid training, leadership and confidence-building, and volunteering opportunities for young people aged between 14-18. It is delivered by NHS England and NHS Improvement in partnership with St John Ambulance.

It aims to provide a sustainable local NHS ‘pipeline’ of future employees from groups which are currently under-represented within the NHS workforce. Each group is linked to a hospital trust and those of an appropriate age also volunteer within the trust. This enables that organisation to grow its local workforce and to increase the diversity of its staff.

The panel will include people involved in the design and delivery of the programme. They will explain how this innovative programme will help boost NHS recruitment as well as reducing health inequalities within disadvantaged communities.

This session is part of the Sustainable Healthcare Zone, which is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim.
