Integrated commissioning: driving change in specialised, pharmacy, optometry, dental and population-based commissioning
A key aim of the 2022 Health and Care Act and NHS England's Operating Framework is to give ICBs greater responsibility for the commissioning of some services previously directly led by NHS England. This includes some specialised services, pharmaceutical, optometry and dental responsibilities.
Giving ICBs a greater leadership role in the commissioning of these services and focusing on population health will enable the delivery of more joined-up care for patients, improving their experiences and treatment outcomes.
The session will set out progress so far with giving ICBs a greater leadership role in these services. It will set out the strategic direction of travel, explore how population health management approaches can influence use of whole population budgets to drive new care models, and discuss the challenges and opportunities integrated commissioning can bring.
