We Deserve Better, a 2023 report from the NHS Race and Health Observatory, found black, Asian and minoritised ethnic people with a learning disability on average die earlier than their white counterparts. Among other factors, disparities and discrimination were highlighted as causes of these inequalities. Significantly, the report found a lower take-up of annual health checks (AHCs) - a key tool in preventing ill health and early death among black, Asian and minoritised ethnic people with a learning disability.

In this session, Sam Clark will facilitate a conversation and Q&As with Nicholas Garvey and Ramandeep Kaur on their first-hand insight into the barriers they face when accessing healthcare.

Habib Naqvi will contextualise lived experiences within the wider evidence of disparities and discrimination, and Jahan Foster Zabit will lead discussion and Q&As on co-produced solutions.
