This session will explore how East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has pioneered the use of AI to improve productivity and the quality of care during pre-operative assessment consultations. As part of an NHS England pilot the trust has introduced AI transcription tool CLEARnotes, which automatically converts nurse-patient conversations into electronic patient notes. The technology reduces admin burden, freeing up capacity for face-to-face time with patients and supporting the reduction of waiting lists.

As one of the first trusts in England to pilot this technology, the trust will share insights and lessons learned from deployment including navigating business change, information governance considerations and safety measures to ensure smooth integration of AI into clinical practice and workflows.

Since introducing the technology, the trust has increased the frequency of patient appointments, allowing more patients to be seen and enhancing the quality of patient interactions.

This session will provide practical, real-world lessons on integrating AI into clinical practice, highlighting the benefits for healthcare professionals and patients.
