In 2023, the NHS Race and Health Observatory published a report exploring the unique mental health needs of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities in the UK, and identified several promising community-led initiatives that are fostering closer working between NHS services and these starkly underserved communities.

To further disseminate the important findings of this research, we've commissioned Romany film maker and journalist Jake Bowers to produce a short film based on the report. Co-produced with members of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities across the country, this powerful film not only shines a light on some of the worst health inequities for any minoritised communities, but importantly also demonstrates that change is possible, and that by working more closely with communities we can break down major barriers to better mental health.

As well as a screening of the film (20 minutes), we will host a short panel discussion with the director of the film, Jake Bowers; the lead researcher on the original project, Dr Peter Unwin; and two community representatives from the projects featured in the film. There will then be a Q&A session.
