Climate and health as mutually reinforcing goals
As Lord Darzi’s report plainly stated: ‘There is no trade-off between climate responsibilities and reducing waiting lists. Indeed, often health and climate are mutually reinforcing goals.’
This session will demonstrate the ways in which the NHS is already supporting the government's three key priorities for the NHS through ground-breaking initiatives that support health and save money, while building a more sustainable NHS:
• From hospital to community – Hampshire Hospitals NHS FT's virtual frailty wards found emissions to be 78 per cent lower than traditional inpatient care and saved 6,064 bed days, while improving patient care and experience.
• From analogue to digital - Sherwood Forest Hospitals FT's public-facing digital services programme offers digital tools, services and support to connect citizens to the information and services they need, when they need them.
• From sickness to prevention - Find & Treat provides a fully equipped bicycle clinic, the first of its kind in Europe, allowing outreach teams to deliver essential public health screenings and deliver health support to London's most vulnerable and underserved populations.
