Thinking differently about highly restrictive staffing practices in the community

12 Jun 2025
Charter 8
Mental health , People with a learning disability and autistic people

Systems have told us that developing least restrictive, high-quality community support is critical both for developing care and support markets, and for developing community sufficiency to deliver the Mental Health Act reform.

Join us to hear about this work, which has been developed with partners, to support systems to think differently about highly restrictive support arrangements in the community.

NHS England will provide background and an overview of the work underway, and you will then have the opportunity to hear from Changing Our Lives, the Black Country NHS Foundation Trust, and Dimensions, all of whom have experience of reducing restrictions in practice. The session will include people’s stories of how restrictive practice has been avoided or reduced and how this was achieved.

You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and to be involved in the work, as well as finding out more about existing resources.
